Matchday 15: PSG vs. Auxerre

Thankfully this guy won’t be there to bother our struggling defense tomorrow.

Tomorrow at 19:00 CET this lower-midtable club from Paris will welcome lofty league leaders AJ Auxerre.  In my opinion, this s a must win game. That may seem like a ridiculous demand against the table toppers, but if the situation here gets any worse drastic measures ma be necessary (i.e. Kombouare will be registering at the unemployment office). For information about AJA go to new blogger Dean’s preview at the Auxerre Offside.

Auxerre Team News:
Le Groupe Auxerrois: Sorin, Riou – Hengbart, Coulibaly, Mignot, Berthod, Grichting – Pedretti, Narry, Ndinga, Chafni, A. Capoue, Dudka, – Niculae, Contout, Oliech, Bourgeois, Quercia

Top scorer and all-around threat Ireneusz Jelen is out, as are A. Traore, Kevin Lejeune, A. Sidibe, and Alexandre Licata. The most notable fit players to be left out of the squad are Valter Birsa and Robert Popov. The reasons for these exclusions are unspecified. You can expect the formation to look something like this…

Sorin
Hengbart-Coulibaly-Gritching-Mignot
Ndinga
Pedretti-Chafni
Quercia-Niculae-Oliech

PSG should look to attack heavily as Auxerre’s main strength is in their defense. In terms of defensive strategy, one (preferably the only) defensive midfielder should be given the task of shutting down Benoit Pedretti, Auxerre’s main playmaking threat. The PSG defense would be advised to sit back or else play a  disciplined offside trap to counteract Auxerre’s exceedingly fast forwards.

PSG Team News:
Le Groupe Parisien: Grégory Coupet, Edel Apoula-Marcos Ceara, Sammy Traore, Mamadou Sakho, Zoumana Camara, Gregory Bourillon, Sylvain Armand-Jeremy Clement, Claude Makelele, Christophe Jallet, Granddi Ngoyi, Younousse Sankhare, Stephane Sessegnon-Mevlut Erding, Ludovic Giuly, Peguy Luyindula, Jean-Eudes Maurice

Basically, we’re missing Hoarau and Chantome. Fun. I would like to see a lineup that looks like this…

Coupet
Ceara-Camara-Sakho-Armand
Makelele-Clement
Jallet-Giuly-Sessegnon
Erding

But we’ll most likely see a 4-4-2 with the same keeper, defense, and defensive center mids, but with Jallet/Giuly on the right and Sessegnon on the left with Erding and Luyindula up top.

I may or may not do a liveblog tomorrow. Do you guys want one, or will ther not be enough people?

The Ligue 1 official website is saying the lineups look like this:

    Coupet
    Jallet Traore Sakho Armand
    Giuly Chantome Makelele Sessegnon
    Erding Luyindula

Someone was lying to us, because Chantome wasn’t in the squad I got from the PSG official website. It also seems Camara didn’t even make the bench??

    and for Auxerre:
    Sorin
    Hengbart Coulibaly Gritching Mignot
    Pedretti Capoue Chafni
    Jelen Niculae Oliech

Jelen was supposed to be injured. There were millions of articles saying he was. WTF!

Nevermind, they’ve changed the PSG lineup to what I predicted (not what I wanted) with Giuly on the right.

For Auxerre it’s same defense and keeper and then…
    Chafni Capoue Pedretti Contout Ndinga
    Niculae

Mamadou Sakho has awesome hair. How are AJA top of the table? We’re completely outplaying them.

Coupet just completely destroyed his own leg (its twisted around completely) in a needless effort to keep the ball in bounds. Time for Apuola to step up.

I didn’t see the game, but it congrats to PSG for the win! I feel that Hoarau’s absence is just a given until 2010, like OM’s Rodriguez. Hopefully with him back in the new year they can really have a good run there at the end of the season. Hard to know though since he will have missed so much of the season.
