Claude Makélélé is not retiring

By: j | March 25th, 2009

Following the Toulouse loss Claude Makélélé made his way across the Pyrénées to Madrid for a few days off with the approval of Paul Le Guen. During the time he spoke with Spanish news source AS resulting in a number of controversial comments. Per the article the Parisian captain was quoted as saying he plans to retire at the conclusion of this year and take the role of Sports Director.

Disputing those comments, Paris Saint-Germain noted on its web-site that he was misquoted. While noting he did conduct an interview with the newspaper, he adds that he never said he wishes to end his career this year and become Sporting Director. While the possibility of him taking such a role at the end of his playing days is definitely there, the newspaper article conclusions are inaccurate. In summary he stated that he remains committed to Rouge et Bleu and any decision will wait till the summer.
