Coupe de France, round of sixteen

By: j | January 28th, 2009

The draw of the Coupe de France round of sixteen was held with PSG set to meet Rodez Aveyron. Les Aveyronnais have done a remarkable job in advancing to this round and as we celebrate the Coupe de France, they are one of the remaining great stories of smaller clubs surviving to take on the upper tier of Football. For true supporters of Football in France who understand that this is about more than just Ligue 1, this is one the highlights of the year and cannot be forgot.

The only outstanding match from the round of thirty-two is today’s clash between Olympique Lyonnais and l’OM. This titanic affair is quite obviously one that Parisian supporters will want to keep a close eye on. Marseille’s new striker Brandão, formerly of Shakhtar Donetsk is likely to feature from the start and will provide l’OM a vibrant goal scoring source that could change the second half of the campaign.

The next round of matches in the Coupe, played on March 3/4 are as follows:

Stade Rennais FC v FC Lorient
LOSC v OL ou OM
US Boulogne CO v Toulouse FC
AC Ajaccio v AS Monaco FC
EA Guingamp v Le Mans UC 72
Dijon FCO v Grenoble Foot 38
Rodez v Paris Saint-Germain
CS Sedan v Vitré
