David N’Gog to Liverpool
By: j | July 24th, 2008
As noted previously, nineteen year-old striker David N’Gog has agreed to terms with Liverpool of the Premier League with a fee reputedly in the ÂŁ1.5m range. The young Parisian is a superb talent who fell out of favour with Paul Le Guen regime but has shown steady improvement on the international scene. His pace and guile will be a tremendous asset for Rafa BenĂtez squad and I am hopeful that he is given the opportunity to shine.
I cannot help but think this was a premature move by him and many of the challenges he will face are things he has not considered, notably moving away from his support group and the lack of mentors he can immediately relate to at Anfield. This is an area that fans and media never discuss but is at least fifty per-cent of the equation with the young player and his advisory staff made an extremely poor move in my opinion. Disconnected agents who only look to line their pockets seem to think a player can be picked-up from his roots and dropped onto the pitch without any thought of environment or personal history, much less knowledge of the game and the family aspect of team. But it doesn’t work that way and this is the cause of why so many brilliant players come to a foreign league and watch their game disintegrate. Rafa, contrary to the asylum of their foreign ownership, is an extraordinary leader and now must plan a very special course for this young man. I am hopeful David’s career flourishes in Liverpool and wish him good fortune.
