Friendlies: The Report
By: Thomas | July 28th, 2009Sorry I haven’t been updating you on these glorified training matches, but we really haven’t done much thus far.
For our first friendly, we played CFA side GSI Pontivy resulting in a 2-0 win through Ludovic Giuly, who struck in the 21st minute, and Yannick Boli, adding to the tally just after the break. Kombouare substituted the entire team at half time and many young players got a chance to play. Here are the highlights:
The next friendly, against tougher opposition in the form of FC Nantes was approached in a similar fashion. The starting lineup consisted of a combination of veterans and recent academy graduates. PSG took the lead in the 20th minute when Sammy Traore headed home Clement Chantome’s powerful free-kick. The lead was extended in the 38th minute when Peguy Lluyindula set up Mateja Kezman to hit one into the back of the net with the outside of his foot. There was another total substitution at half time, but the Parisian club could not add another and the score remained 2-0.
The most recent friendly, against Greek side Panthrakikos, ended in a less positive result. PSG took the lead with a Grandii N’Goyi goal in the twelfth minute, but Panthrakikos equalised soon after. PSG substituted all eleven at halftime but the match concluded in a 1-1 draw.
Tomorrow we will play our final pre-Emirates Cup friendly against Fiorentina in London. I will put up a preview before the match tomorrow. This should give us a better idea of where our team stands.

I take comfort from the fact that we can play young and backup players and still beat a team that was in Ligue 1 last year 2-0. These are good friendlies. Can’t wait for the Emirates cup though!
