Mehmed Baždarević’s Grenoble holds PSG to scoreless draw

By: j | February 21st, 2009

The visit of Stade des Alpes proved too much for the Parisians as Mehmed Baždarević’s Grenoble held them to a scoreless draw. The result is costly for les Rouge et Bleu as they fall six points behind Lyon and provide an opening for l’OM and Bordeux.

While it is unclear whether Paul Le Guen’s forces were forewarned of the complexity of playing at the Stade des Alpes, as this was their first Ligue 1 match at the cozy facility, PSG will certainly remember it. Mehmed Baždarević has constructed a brilliant plan for Grenoble, albeit expected given his extraordinary library of knowledge and utilizing a tactically superb approach that while it may not be glamourous, will see the club through threats of relegation. Within the match, the Parisians should have had the lead early but Guillaume Hoarau was unable to finish top-shelf provisions from Ludovic Giuly at the fourteenth and twenty-second minute. Grenoble didn’t wilt and forced the best out of Mickaël Landreau via the effort young-gun Sofiane Feghouli. After a scoreless first half the Parisians were focused on finding the winning streak with Stéphane Sessegnon a whirlwind but each time the final touch fell short. Momentum slowly turned and with twenty minutes remaining it was les Rouge et Bleu who were holding on to the draw as Grenoble sensed a victory. However late heroics by Mickaël Landreau held Pierre Boya back and the match concluded as a deserved nil draw.

PSG returns to play next Thursday as they face VfL Wolfsburg in UEFA Cup action.
