Paris Saint-Germain v Dynamo Kyiv UEFA Cup match preview

By: j | April 16th, 2009

After the opening leg between Paris Saint-Germain and Dynamo Kyiv at Parc des Princes ended in a nil draw, Paul Le Guen and company have their work cut out for them as they head to beautiful Kyiv on Wednesday.

The Parisians have been fortunate to get to this stage of the UEFA Cup and although the manager has had to balance domestic play with European competition with a small club, they are a within grasp of a semi-finals. Prior to the match Paul Le Guen sounded his charges with a confident declaration that “we’ll qualify” for the next round:

“No, I’m convinced we’ll qualify. We have the potential and even if we haven’t scored in our last two games against Dynamo or Lille, this return leg against Dynamo is different because we have to score at least one goal.”

Les Rouge et Bleu will have Sylvain Armand available for the match and unlike the opening engagement in Paris, Claude Makélélé and Ludovic Giuly will be in the starting eleven with a keen intent of silencing the Dynamo faithful. PSG will however miss both Mateja Kežman and Mamadou Sakho to injury.

Yuri Semin’s Dynamo are powering through a stunning record-setting campaign in the Ukrainian Premier League and continued their winning form with a 3-1 victory over Chornomorets Odessa this weekend. Of recent the injury bug has hit the club, with Artem Kravets, Taras Mikhalik and Pape Diakhate out for the match but the crowd support cannot be understated as this will be a mighty barrier for the Parisians.
