PSG edged by ÉDS Montluçon 1-0 in the Coupe de France as the Championnat de France Amateurs side put forth a noble effort. As stated in his pre-match press conferance Paul Le Guen took the match very serious and utilized his normal lineup for the most part, excluding Apoula Edel who handled the goalkeeping chores while MickaĂ«l Landreau rested his troublesome shoulder. The back line of CearĂ , Zoumana Camara, Sammy TraorĂ© and Sylvain Armand was rarely disturbed and did a splendid job in assisting the ‘keepers perfect record. Montluçon exhibited good discipline and patience with a stout defending stance but they could not break through PSG on the counter. Although limited to only a few testing skirmishes PSG nearly took the lead ten minutes after the start with Ludovic Giuly’s corner being flicked to the post by Sammy TraorĂ© header but not being able to break through. Ten minutes later PSG tried to establish its superiourity with a flurry of attacking spirit but once again Montluçon was up to the challenge and match went to the break a cautious nil draw. Proven correct with his concern, Paul Le Guen knew this match would likely end as a one goal affair and seven minutes after the re-start the Parisians found the goal they needed as StĂ©phane Sessegnon directed a perfectly drawn corner by JĂ©rĂ´me Rothen into the net. Montluçon best chance to level came with seventeen minutes remaining but Apoula Edel nipped the opportunity in the bud to maintain his clean sheet. Whilst PSG had opportunities to increase the margin, each attempt fell short and the Parisians will now advance to the next round with a 1-0 victory.
PSG returns to Ligue 1 action next Sunday as they face Laurent Blanc’s Bordeaux.
