PSG v Caen match preview

By: j | January 30th, 2009

Riding a three match winning streak after the foul loss to Bordeaux, PSG welcomes Caen to Parc des Princes Saturday evening. With the Parisians nestled sixth in the Ligue 1 table, one point behind Toulouse and Stade Rennais, who meet Saturday evening, a victory is critical in their efforts to a European bid.

Caen is meandering through a peculiar campaign that started with promise but has seen them without a victory since the third week of November and a pithy three points over the last six matches. However to consider them less than a formidable opponent would be foolish as they possess top quality players and are capable of being in the top third of the table. Last weeks match against Monaco was a perfect example of the potential as down by two with twenty minutes remaining Les Bleaus capped Steve Savidan scored with seventeen minutes remaining before Anthony Deroin provided Benjamin Nivet the leveler two minutes into added time. For Saturdays match they will be without the services of Sebastien Mazure,Remi Gomis and Gregory Proment.

Paul Le Guen recognizes the quality of the opposition and in recognition of their loss to Boulogne in the Coupe de France, he believes they will be brimming with motivation. The Parisians enter the match without any new injuries although they will miss Jérôme Rothen who is suspended. Claude Makélélé returns to play and following improved play in the reserves, just turned nineteen year old midfielder Tripy Makonda (pictured) is included in the squad list. A member of the academy since he was eleven, lets hope Tripy gets a chance.
