the saga of Claude Makélélé
By: j | July 17th, 2008
In the realm of off-season sagas, the Claude Makélélé situation is heartiest of dramas. The on-again, off-again romancing of the thirty-five year-old French national continues and it is perilous slope to try and figure where it may end. Equally stated Chelsea’s new Manager, Luis Scolari, has went on record that many roster spots will be cleared out and it’s difficult to see how Claude works into the long-term plans of the club.
Raised in the suburban outskirts of Paris, he has had a highly accomplished career, starting in Nantes, with notable stops in Real Madrid and Chelsea, while earning seventy-one caps for Les Bleus. He has been a fixture on the Footballing world for two decades now and while he is the twilight of his career, a return home would only not rejuvenate him but take his career in a direction of leadership within the community he likely has not considered. Should he do so, I think we’d see a renaissance of not only him but an important step in PSG’s long recovery.
The task to bring him to Parc des Princes might not be as easy as he has stated, through Le Parisien, that he is not interested. Naturally these types of comments in the media can be misconstrued or part of the bargaining position. However in my opinion if Claude was offered the opportunity to be a part of the PSG resurgence he should leap at it as he will long be remembered in the community for what it means to the club and supporters. Within the realm of short-sighted decisions an athlete (and his management) can make, this will definitely rank high this off-season should he stay at Chelsea.
What’s your take on this, will he stay at Chelsea and would you want him at PSG?
