Transfer Rumors and Gregory Coupet Responds
By: Thomas | June 30th, 2009
Young center back Larrys Mabiala has moved to OGC Nice for an undisclosed fee. I don’t have much of an opinion on this as he only featured in a few first team games last season, but I do hope we got a reasonable sum for him.
It seems that we have given up our supposed chase of Patrick Vieira, which I am fine with as we really don’t need another French veteran defensive midfielder.
Also, new signing Gregory Coupet responded directly to the complaints in my last post in an interview with Le Parisien.
“If I was 25 I would also think that it was strange for a 36-year-old goalkeeper to be playing at PSG, it’s logical to think that. It’s up to me to prove them wrong.
My strength is my enormous desire to play. I need it too much.
I’m coming from a huge failure in sporting terms because I did not play at Atletico Madrid. Instead of getting me down, this has increased my desire to play tenfold.
Playing matches is my life. I was born for this. I need the adrenaline of games.
I needed to be deprived of playing for me to understand what a competitor I was.”
Interesting Gregory. Lets see how this pans out.

I adore Coupet. I want him to end his career in a better way that the last couple of years would allow. Best of luck to him at PSG!!

I wouldn’t worry too much. Coupet is solid. He should have played WC 2006, and Euro 2008 was NOT his fault. He wasn’t great in the Netherlands game, but he was fantastic against Italy. The goals scored in that game were a penalty (thanks, Abidal) and a free kick that he had covered till it deflected off Henry.
He may be a little rusty at first, but I still consider him a world-class keeper.

He should have played WC2006 but in Euro 2008 he wasn’t at his best either. Well no one was!
He is a solid keeper though and a good organizer of defense. I would expect PSG to be tough to score against.
