UPDATE TIME!

By: Thomas | August 6th, 2009

Wow I missed a lot. I’ve been on vacation for four days and I have a ton of catching up to do. Really sorry for the absence btw. I am going to try to keep things going strong from now on though, with frequent posts and more information.

First off…matches that I missed.

PSG 1-1 Atletico Madrid

Our starting lineup:
Apoula
Ceara Traore Baning Armand
Guily Ngoyi Clement Sessegnon
Luyindula Kezman

And some highlights…

Apart from that I can’t really comment, since I didn’t see the match, apart from saying that a draw against a team of Atletico’s quality is always good. The final Emirates Cup standings are as follows:

Rank Team Points GF GA GD SOT
1 Arsenal (C) 11 5 1 4 13
2 Rangers 4 1 3 -2 7
3 Atlético Madrid 3 2 3 -1 11
4 Paris Saint-Germain 2 1 2 -1 4

Not our best showing in this competition, but a good effort.

Rothen has again been linked to Blackburn. If he’s actually leaving, do it quickly, because this transfer saga is starting to bore me.

That’s all for now, but await a preview for the first game of the season!

That was really not a penalty. Baning completely missed the tackle and Aguero fell way to late. Bad call, but still a good result.

Apoula Edel played very well against Atletico Madrid. This guy definately deserves a chance to start in Ligue 1. Also, the referees screwed PSG on that phantom penalty with Aguero but Sessegnon really torched the Spaniards badly in the second half. Banning was unstoppable in central defense until the refs unbelievably red carded him. Terrible officiating. PSG looks sharp ahead of the opener.

I would love to see Edel start a few games, and with a keeper like Coupet, whose fitness and quality of play can be questionable at times, it is great to have solid backup. It sounds like the penalty call was bad, but at least it’s only a friendly! I’m really pleased that Sessegnon is continuing his excellent form. He was great against Fiorentina and seems to be getting well suited to the left side.
