Video: Makelele Confronts Fans

By: Thomas | February 7th, 2010

After the horror that was the match against Lorient (No, I’m not doing a review, to0 painful) the masses at the Parc were understandably infuriated. They chose the normal path one chooses when incensed at the players and hurled obscenities and jeers at them while they entered the tunnel. Most of the players ingnored them, but Captain Claude decided to have a word, pushing past the overwieght men in orange vests to have a calm conversation (presumably about the problems with the club) with screaming fanatics many of whom had whipped out their cell phones to upload Maka’s explanations to youtube (thank you user “matt2784″). I love that instead of yelling right back at the fans, Makelele trys to reason with them in a gentlemanly fashion. Pure class.

I would like to know what he said.

Offensively PSG have been creating chances at least but defensively they just cannot keep any team out.

Apart from Sakho, Armand and Camara I don’t see any competent defender at the club. Traore is slow on pace & reactions. Ceara & Jallet are good going forward but lack the defensive qualities.

Midfield lacks creativity. Sessognon is the only creative player. Giuly is mostly on the bench. Luckily Luynidula & Erdinc have been amazing else PSG would be competing with Grenoble.

Compare this reaction to David Beckham’s last summer when he started to go into the stands to fight the fans, twice.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking Bob. Maka showed lots of professionalism, especially considering that the fans at the Parc have an unfortunate reputation as some of the rowdiest and most dangerous in the world, as compared to the Galaxy fans…

Yes, I heard about the slap. Here’s an article from Le Monde:

    http://www.lemonde.fr/sport/article/2010/02/11/psg-sakho-gifle-un-journaliste-du-parisien_1304573_3242.html

    Translation:
PSG defender Mamadou Sakho slapped a journalist from the daily Le Parisien on Thursday at the training center of the club, according to the journalist himself as well as witnesses.

“Sakho rose, he insulted me by calling me a ’son of a bitch’ and gave me a slap,” said the journalist, who wished to remain anonymous and plans to complain. He then received an apology from PSG president Robin Leproux and Antoine Kombouare.

J’aime Claude! Too bad about Sakho (bad for the fans and PSG, but better for OM!)– does he normally have a temper?

I hope you guys won’t make this weekend’s game as easy as last time…I’m ready for a Classico that actually lives up to its reputation!
