week 3 match preview Sochaux-Montbéliard

By: j | August 23rd, 2008

In continuation of part one of todays match against Sochaux-Montbéliard, Paul Le Guen has the table set to launch PSG’s new attack. Spearheaded by Stéphane Sessegnon servicing Mateja Kežman, Ludovic Giuly and Guillaume Hoarau, PSG will need to attack more much more aggressively than the Bordeaux match. Sochaux-Montbéliard is prone to defensive lapses as you push the play to them. The key is simple if not repetitive, attack, attack, attack and choke them up early. Les Lionceaux would be wise to control play and gradually expand the pitch and attack in the flanks as the match wanes on. Claude Makélélé will need to be aware of this and keep the ranks tight, ensure lines and marking is tight and pay heed to aerial attacks which have been a problem so far.

This should be a highly attacking, exciting match. I will follow-up with a full re-cap at the conclusion of the match.

It’s a good result, I think. It should boost the confidence surrounding the team a bit. How did Kezman do?

I am very positive on his addition to the club and for his first match he looked very solid. However I think he’s had a long layoff and will need to spend some time on the pitch improving fitness and acclimating to teammates. I should note that I think much the same of most the squad at this point because they don’t appear to be on the same page at times. It’ll take them roughly six to ten matches to really be attacking in unison.

What’s even more encouraging then is the fact that PSG is grabbing points while still “acclimating”. Shows potential. Those UEFA cup matches should speed up this process as well.
Anyway, looking forward to some good results this season. Hell, it’s about time.
